Join your neighbors and complete at least six of the listed activities - Receive a Water Wise Home decal.
ALL CITIZENS
Don't flush medicines and/or prescription drugs
Drop them off at the Suffolk Police Headquarters located on Washington Street.
Use re-useable bags and water bottles.
"Scoop the dog poop".
Don't put kitchen grease in the sink.
Recycle.
Turn off lights, computers and other electronic D devices when not in use.
Pick up litter.
Don't use stormwater outlets (sewers) as a receptacle for grass clippings or trash.
Report environmental violations to the city of Suffolk City Manager's Office and NRPA at 757-745-7447.
Volunteer for community planting of native plants, shrubs and trees

Implement a plan to eradicate phragmites - an aggressive wetland grass that out-competes native plants and native animals.
Plant a living shoreline.
HOME OWNERS
Plant native plants, shrubs and trees. Visit the arboretum at Sleepy Hole Park to view native species for ideas.

Prevent fertilizer run-off into storm drains and waterways.
Raise your mower blades to at least 3" Water your lawn only as needed.
Leave clippings on your lawn and mulch leaves.
Test your soil (Suffolk libraries have test kits) to determine the amount of fertilizer that would be effective for your property.
Replace a portion of your lawn with native plants.
Plant a rain garden.
Install a Rain Barrel.
Use pervious pavers instead of concrete or asphalt.
Redirect downspout away from pavement or stormwater outlet and toward a garden.
Wash your car or truck on your lawn.
